I believe in Gotham City... Jim Gordon thought, hiding from the bullets behind his police cruiser.
That's why I'm apart of this department, it's why I get up in the morning, hell it's why I give a damn at all He rolled to behind the bonnet of the other cruiser.
It's why I'm out here busting my ass trying to stop these punks from killing anyone! He thought visciously, bobbing up from behind the car to fire some aimed shots at the fugitives.
He hit one in the shoulder.
"AGGGHHH!!!" The criminal screamed as the bullet tore his flesh.
Jim went to reload and noticed something that fell out of his shirt pocket. It was a photo of Barbara and the baby.
That's a loada crap! I don't do it for Gotham, I do it for them. For Barbara and my daughter!
BANG!!! BANG!!! BANG!!!
THUD!
The last of the crooks fell.
Walking over two the unconscious bodies of the criminals, Jim noticed that two of them had their hands bound by thick ropes sporting metallic bats on them.
The Batman had been here.
Jim sipped his coffee moments later, watching as his fellow policemen carried the crooks away. Two in a cruiser, two in an ambulance.
Lt. Gordon stared up at the cloudy sky and could swear he saw a bat shaped shadow fly across the skyscrapers in front of him.
'I think you're trying to help... but I've been wrong before.'

I believe in the Batman...
I believe in my family...
I believe in Gotham City...
I believe in Gotham City.
Batman watched from the shadows, as the gunmen continued fire. Fugitives from Arkham Asylum, let loose into Gotham. However, they were cornered by Lieutenant Jim Gordon, according to the police report Batman overheard with his cowl radio.
Now, He was here, to make sure everything went as it should. Gordon was behind his car, firing off the occasional round at the gunmen. Batman noticed one getting ready to fire at the bobbing Gordon.
I do this to protect the citizens of Gotham City. I made a promise on the grave of my parents that I would rid this city of the evil that took their lives. Since, I have aqquired new responsibilities... new challenges. A wife and son. A legacy of a long since struggling company. The role of a protector to a city without hope.
I have not, and will not, abandon these responsibilities.
Batman touched the symbol on his chest, and felt a pendant under it. One he wore every night, to remind him of these responsibilities. He gave two final thoughts to himself. One of Rachel, his wife. And one of his son.
And then... He moved. With the grace of an angel, and the prescence of a devil, He leapt from the shadows, tossing a Bat-bola to the thug, bounding his arms together. He then kicked the thug in the back of his skull, knocking him out. He then threw another one as the nearest thug, doing the same.
With a spin, Batman ducked, and swept kicked one of the thugs as he screamed in pain from another injury.
As sirens errupted into the night, Batman leapt in the sky, perching onto a rooftop as the police arrived behind a slightly confused Jim Gordon. It had went so fast that the entire incident was nothing more than a blur of motion.
Batman then fired his grappling hook, and swung from the area, seeing that his friend was fine... not caring about his own safety in the incident.
I take these responsibilites to heart, never forgetting them as I push myself each and every night to live on. Not for myself, but for others. The people I care for. The people I fight for.
Batman landed on a gargoyle, overlooking the city. His cape spanned out, flowing over the city as Batman claimed his spot over the city, as it's protector. As it's guardian, of sorts.
He then knelt his head, preparing himself for the next crime that he had to prevent. Whatever it was, He would fight until it was finished. Gotham City would be restored.
